Welfare Department

z2 slider2

This is the department that organises welfare and harnesses all available resources within the church to provide for the needy in the church.

FUNCTIONS OF THE WELFARE DEPARTMENT

  1. Organises for funds and other resources to meet the need of people within the church
  2. Specifically identify individuals who need material assistance and organise to meet their needs
  3. Give support to the Pastorate to assist the poor, widows and the needy within the church.

QUALIFICATIONS TO WORK IN THE WELFARE DEPARTMENT

  1. GENEROSITY: One must have a large heart and ready to give to assist others.
  2. LOVE FOR OTHERS: One must also be the type that loves others and willing to help them.
  3. SENSE OF CONCERN: Without a sense of concern for others, one cannot make a head way in this department.
  4. CONFIDENTIALITY: A worker in this unit must be ready to keep official information about others confidential as he will be getting privileged information by virtue of his duties.

The group is responsible for the needs of the people in the church both spiritual and material.  Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me”, The Bible has taught us to be doers of the word and be our brother’s keeper. Galatians 6:2 ‘Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ’.  It is our church culture to fellowship with one another with our gifts and resources.

Generosity to the Needy – Deuteronomy 15:7-11

7 “If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, 8 but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs. 9 Beware lest there be a wicked thought in your heart, saying, ‘The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand,’ and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cry out to the Lord against you, and it becomes sin among you. 10 You shall surely give to him, and your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand. 11 For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore, I command you, saying, ‘You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.’
